Ilana Goor was born in Tiberias, she returns to her home town with her sculpture “Mother Ship” and closes a circle. The sculptor was created in memory of her mother who was a senior physician and delivered most of the children of Tiberias. She was considered an esteean med personality in the northern town. Dr. Rachel Sapir died of cancer at a too early age and her personality greatly influenced Goor, she encouraged her talent and supported her. The sculpture depicts a ship sailing into the horizon of the Sea of Galilee and represents the dominance of Dr Sapir, Goor’s mother, in her lifetime. In this sculpture too, as well as other of Goor’s outdoor sculptures, there is a combination of art and everyday life as such that the visitors to the promenade can sit on the wooden benches built on the deck, in the shade of the sails and enjoy the Israeli scenery laid out before them.
