The statue represents one of the well known and popular iconographies which have been well documented in the Christian world. The title of the iconography is “The Pieta” and it presents Mary, the Mother and the Virgin Mary in Christianity, holding Jesus, her son, on her lap, after he was crucified and taken down from the cross when his body is slumped over her. Her tortured face and her gaze full of grief express the magnitude of her pain. The most famous Pieta statue in the world was created in the 15th century by Michelangelo and is located in all its magnificence and glory in the Vatican City.
