This is an oil painting by Ilana Goor's grandfather, Dr. Yosef Sapir, depicting a funeral procession at Kidron Valley in Jerusalem facing the monumental Yad Avshalom rock-cut tomb. The somber, gloomy painting, which was painted in dark colors, describes a painful subject and corresponds with the geographic location. Important historical figures were buried around this Valley and it is surrounded by mountains, which make the area dark and gloomy. Ilana Goor had the painting framed in 18-carat gold as a gesture of respect. Moreover, it serves as a crown for the work of art and as a deliberate contrast between the painting's cold subject matter and the impressive and warm frame.
