During the exposure and reconstruction of the building initiated by Ilana Goor in the early 90s, these rare ballistae were found buried in one of the spaces on the premises. The assumption is that they are remnants from Napoleon's expedition in Israel as part of his military campaign at the time. At first, he arrived to Egypt and then proceeded northward, conquered Jaffa and Haifa, and laid siege to Acre. Napoleon won several battles, most notably the Battle of Mount Tabor; however following the failed Siege of Acre, he returned to Egypt with his soldiers and finally to France when the European nations formed the Second anti-French Coalition.
