- TechniqueAn ancient plough coated with 22 carat gold
- Size85X199X90
An ancient, rusty and abandoned plough was coated by Ilana Goor using the traditional technique of affixing 22 carat gold leaf. This work is considered to be particularly complex due to the fragility of the expensive leaves affixed by hand taking many hours. This very action turns the plough into an exclusive piece of jewellery, as a symbolic crown of Mother Earth and as a flagship piece in Ilana Goor’s contemporary artwork which wishes to complete a cycle, in her words: “We have forgotten the earth and we are all now addicted to the golden calf”. The work is not placed on the ground but rather is separated from it and hangs in the air suspended over the earth and emphasizes the respect given to it. The “Crown of the Earth” sculpture is the crowning glory of a particularly large series of works by Ilana Goor, relating to the earth and agricultural tools and points to the artist’s affinity to the earth of the Land of Israel.
